Planning a Virgin Voyages group cruise

I plan group sailings for birthdays, Pride trips and friends who want to travel together, and in June 2026 I hosted about 40 people on Valiant Lady for a 40th birthday. Here is how Virgin's group program works, and what I do differently.

The short answer

  • Virgin’s group program starts at 8 cabins.
  • Perks include a group Bar Tab of $50 to $200 per cabin, group dining help, morning meeting space, a locked-in fare and a complimentary leader cabin for every 16 paid, depending on eligibility.
  • Start early. Most of the flexibility is outside 120 to 150 days.
  • Linked bookings let anyone in the group make or cancel plans for everyone. I set this up carefully.

What Virgin offers groups

Virgin rebuilt its group program in June 2026. Here is what the current program includes, depending on eligibility and your group contract:

  • Group size: starts at 8 cabins.
  • Group Bar Tab per cabin: $50 on 4 to 5 nights, $100 on 6 to 9 nights and $200 on 10+ nights. It is for premium drinks only, and it also works at The Beach Club at Bimini.
  • Group dining concierge: help booking 1, 2 or 3 group dinners, depending on voyage length.
  • Morning meeting space: complimentary for up to 2, 4 or 6 hours, depending on voyage length.
  • Fare and promotion locked in when the group is created. On select sailings, group fares are lower than the public fare.
  • Group leader cabin: a complimentary cabin for every 16 paid cabins, depending on eligibility.

One catch: group fares don’t combine with Instant Savings, Refer a Sailor, resident rates or military rates. I check which option works out better for your group before we create it.

Heads up: What counts is the group contract for your sailing. I get the perks in writing before anyone pays a deposit.

While managing a Virgin Voyages Circle group, I got conflicting information on complimentary Tour Conductor cabins and promotions. I worked directly with Virgin’s group support team to confirm the rules, including how converting a booking to a complimentary cabin would affect existing perks.

Be careful with linked bookings

Linking bookings lets you plan dining and Shore Things together. Virgin also warns that it means any sailor in the group can make or cancel plans for the group (Virgin celebrations FAQ). With 40 people, that can go wrong fast.

My tip: I keep the big group dinners and private events under my control, and let each cabin book their own extras.

Celebrating on board

  • Splash for Your Bash includes a bottomless brunch and a celebratory dinner party with a family-style menu, a magnum of bubbly and upgraded champagne for each sailor. It can only be booked before the voyage.
  • Virgin does not allow balloons or fresh flower arrangements on board.
  • Big dinners are subject to availability, and everyone needs to be connected in the app first.
  • Mega RockStar suites can host in-suite parties, arranged through the RockStar Agent.

What I did for a 40-person birthday

DG

For the 40th birthday on Valiant Lady from Barcelona, I had about 20 cabins and 40 travelers. I booked hotels in Madrid and Barcelona before the cruise, arranged a private boat charter in Cinque Terre, and used the Massive Suite as our gathering spot, with food arranged through my RockStar Agent. Every cabin got a personalized arrival pack. You don’t have to do all of that, but it shows what is possible.

What I do for my clients

  • One point of contact for the whole group: me.
  • Cabins chosen so friends are near each other, on fares that allow it.
  • Group perks confirmed in writing before deposits.
  • Private experiences in port when the group is too big for a standard tour.

A group Bar Tab of $50, $100 or $200 per cabin by voyage length, group dining concierge help, complimentary morning meeting space, a locked-in fare and a complimentary leader cabin for every 16 paid, depending on eligibility. I get them in writing in your group contract.

How I keep this guide accurate. I check every policy, fare and date against Virgin Voyages’ own FAQs and contract first, and only use cruise forums and other advisors for things Virgin does not publish, which I label as reported by sailors. I re-check each guide at least every 90 days and the same week Virgin announces a change. Last fully checked October 20, 2026. Spot something out of date? Tell me and I will fix it.

Planning a group?

Tell me the occasion, roughly how many cabins, and when. I'll find the right sailing, get the group perks in writing, and handle the details so you can enjoy it too. I take the stress. You take the photos.
