What will a Virgin Voyages cruise really add up to?

The fare is only the start. I built this calculator so you can see the whole number before you book: fare, taxes, gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi and excursions, using real Virgin fares.

By Derek Gebelhardt, Top 100 Virgin Voyages First MateFact-checked against Virgin’s official policies October 20, 2026

The short answer

For most couples on a 7-night Caribbean sailing, taxes and extras add roughly $800 to $2,000+ on top of the cabin fare. Gratuities are now about $20 per sailor, per night prepaid. Your drinking style is the biggest swing. Food, essential drinks, basic Wi-Fi, fitness classes and entertainment are already included.

This is an estimate, not a quote. Fares come from Virgin's public fares on October 20, 2026 and change daily. Gratuity and Wi-Fi amounts are the published rates as of that date.

What's already in your fare

This is the part people underestimate. On Virgin, your fare already covers:

  • All the restaurants. Virgin has 20+ eateries and no extra charge for specialty dining.
  • Essential drinks: filtered still and sparkling water, sodas, non-pressed juices, drip coffee and sachet teas.
  • Wi-Fi on every sailing (the basic level depends on your fare).
  • Group fitness classes and the gym.
  • Entertainment, including the shows and pop-up acts.

When clients compare Virgin to a mass-market line, I tell them to add the specialty dining, soda package and Wi-Fi they would buy elsewhere before comparing fares. That's usually where Virgin's value shows up.

A sample 7-night budget for two

This is how I build the extras line on a typical quote for two people in a Sea Terrace on a 7-night Caribbean sailing, on an Essential fare booked after October 7, 2025. Your fare and taxes come on top.

Which fare is the best value overall?

Since October 7, 2025, Sea Terrace and lower cabins come in three fares: Base, Essential and Premium. Base is the entry-level fare but is non-refundable and does not allow date or name changes. Essential is the standard fare with Classic Wi-Fi and the usual flexibility. Premium adds the most flexibility, faster Wi-Fi, an earlier dining-booking window (60 days out) and a daily drink allowance.

My tip: If your dates are locked and you'd never cancel, Base can be the best value overall. If there's any chance plans change, Essential usually beats losing a non-refundable Base fare. I run both for clients.

Five ways I stretch your vacation budget

  1. Prepay gratuities to pay $2 less per sailor, per night.
  2. Prepay a Bar Tab before sailing. Virgin adds bonus value of up to $250, and you cannot buy a Bar Tab onboard.
  3. Bring your wine. Each cabin can carry on two 750 mL bottles of wine or Champagne. Corkage at the restaurants is $25.
  4. Book through a First Mate. Eligible bookings with me get extra Sailor Loot on top of Virgin's promotions.
  5. Watch for upgrades. My upgrade bidding guide shows how to bid smart.

What I do for my clients

  • I compare Base, Essential and Premium side by side, including what each one would mean for you if plans change.
  • I check whether a promotion, such as Instant Savings or 70% off the second sailor, beats the alternative offer on your exact sailing.
  • I file Virgin’s 48-hour fare guarantee claim if the fare drops right after booking.
  • I add eligible Virtuoso Sailor Loot and make sure it shows up on your booking.
  • Already booked direct? Virgin can move a booking to me within 30 days of creation if it is not paid in full (Virgin new bookings FAQ).

Quick answers

Is Virgin Voyages all-inclusive?

Not fully. Food at every restaurant, essential drinks (water, soda, drip coffee, non-pressed juice, tea), basic Wi-Fi, fitness classes and entertainment are included. Alcohol, specialty coffee, gratuities on newer bookings, excursions and the spa are extra.

What do Virgin Voyages fares run per person?

It depends on the sailing and cabin. In Virgin's fares on October 20, 2026, most 4 to 7 night Caribbean sailings started between about $650 and $900 per person (lowest cabin, two sharing) before taxes, gratuities and extras, and a few started under $500. Use the calculator on this page with a real sailing to see your number.

Are gratuities included on Virgin Voyages?

Only for bookings made on or before October 6, 2025. For bookings made on or after October 7, 2025, gratuities are $20 per sailor, per night if prepaid, or $22 per night if charged onboard.

How much should I budget for drinks on Virgin Voyages?

Many sailors spend $25 to $85 per person, per day on alcohol and specialty coffee. Essential drinks are free. My Bar Tab calculator estimates your spend by drinking style.

Is Virgin Voyages worth it?

For adults who want great food without upcharges, a social vibe and no kids, most of my clients say yes. It feels less worth it if you want a traditional unlimited drink package or a big pool deck.

How I keep this guide accurate. I check every policy, fare and date against Virgin Voyages’ own FAQs and contract first, and only use cruise forums and other advisors for things Virgin does not publish, which I label as reported by sailors. I re-check each guide at least every 90 days and the same week Virgin announces a change. Last fully checked October 20, 2026. Spot something out of date? Tell me and I will fix it.
