Virgin Voyages for military and veterans

I'm a veteran myself. I served in military intelligence in the US Air Force and Space Force, so I take this rate seriously and I make sure it is actually on your booking. Here is who qualifies, how it works, and when another offer is the better choice.

The short answer

  • Virgin’s Military and First Responders Rate takes 5%, 10% or 15% off the voyage fare on select sailings.
  • It covers US and Canada active duty, veterans, spouses and surviving spouses, plus firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and police officers.
  • It is not automatic. It needs the Access Key SERVICERATE, and when I book, I add it for you.
  • Sea Terrace, Sea View and Insider cabins only. RockStar Quarters are not included.
  • It does not combine with My Next Virgin Voyage or group programs.
  • Bring your military or first responder ID and your passport to check-in.

Who qualifies

Per Virgin, the rate covers active members, veterans, spouses and surviving spouses of the US and Canada military (Virgin Voyages Military and First Responders Rate):

GroupWho is included
Military branchesArmy, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Space Force, National Guard
Uniformed servicesNOAA Corps, US Public Health Service
First respondersFirefighters, EMTs, paramedics, police officers

Spouses and surviving spouses are named directly, so a military spouse can use the rate. Verification is simple: Virgin asks you to bring a valid military or first responder ID to the terminal at check-in.

My tip: If you are not sure your role or status counts, ask me before you book. I would rather check with Virgin than have the rate questioned at the pier.

How the rate works

Pick an eligible sailingVirgin keeps a list of eligible voyages and sets each one at 5%, 10% or 15%. The list and the percentage change often.
Pick an eligible cabinXL Sea Terrace, Central Sea Terrace, The Sea Terrace, Limited View Sea Terrace, Sea Terrace Slightly Smaller Balcony, Sea View, Social Insider or Insider.
Add the Access KeyOnline, you enter SERVICERATE at checkout. When I book, I add it on the First Mate side. Either way, it is never applied automatically.
Confirm before you payCheck that the rate shows on your fare. I send you the confirmation so you can see it.
Bring ID on sail dayPack your military or first responder ID and your passport. Virgin may ask for proof at check-in.

As of Virgin’s October 21, 2026 First Mate list, about 59 sailings are eligible. Most are Miami and San Juan Caribbean sailings, and many late-2026 dates are at 15%. There are also some 2027 transatlantic and Mediterranean dates at 5% to 15%. Ask me for the current list for your dates.

What it combines with, and what it does not

Virgin’s terms say the rate combines with select public promotional offers, but there are clear exclusions (Virgin promotional terms):

  • Not with My Next Virgin Voyage. If you booked your next trip on board, compare the two before deciding.
  • Not with group programs or Circles. A large military reunion may be better off on a group contract. See my group cruise guide.
  • Not with resident rates such as the Florida or Texas resident offers.
  • Full-fare paid bookings only. Not for reduced-fare Access Keys or industry rates.
  • Not for RockStar Quarters. If you want a suite, we look at other offers instead.
DG

This is where I earn my keep. The military rate is not always the best option for every booking. On some sailings a public promotion or a group contract works out better for you. I run both and show you the numbers before you commit.

Tips from one veteran to another

  • Book the cabin, not just the rate. A 15% rate on an Insider you will hate is not a win. I start with what you actually want.
  • Carry a physical ID. Your passport covers travel. The military or first responder ID is what proves the rate.
  • Surviving spouses qualify in their own right. You do not need the service member on the booking.
  • Use the time to decompress. Virgin is adults-only and calm on a sea day if you want it to be. You do not have to join anything.

I confirm which rates and perks apply to your booking in writing before you pay, depending on eligibility.

How I keep this guide accurate. I check every policy, fare and date against Virgin Voyages’ own FAQs and contract first, and use official port and government sources for anything Virgin does not publish. I re-check each guide at least every 90 days and the same week Virgin announces a change. Last fully checked October 21, 2026. Spot something out of date? Tell me and I will fix it.
