Celebrating on Virgin Voyages
Birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, vow renewals and full weddings all happen on these ships. Virgin's add-ons are good, but they have limits, deadlines and a few surprising rules. Here is what is worth it, and how I plan the details.
The short answer
- Splash of Romance is for couples: priority boarding, daily juices, two thermal spa passes, a Shake for Champagne bottle, a couples event and chocolates. It is $250 and limited per sailing.
- A Splash for Your Bash is for groups: bottomless brunch, a celebratory dinner party and Moët per cabin. It is $250 per cabin for two Sailors, for 1 to 9 cabins.
- Both are booked before you sail, and both can sell out.
- No balloons or fresh flower arrangements are allowed on board.
- Weddings start at $4,000 for a couple-only ceremony, plus the cruise fare.
Splash of Romance vs Splash for Your Bash
| Splash of Romance | A Splash for Your Bash | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Couples, honeymoons, anniversaries | Birthdays and groups of friends |
| What is included | Priority boarding, daily cold-pressed juices, two 3-hour thermal spa passes, a Shake for Champagne bottle, a Toast of Romance cocktail event, chocolates | One bottomless brunch per Sailor at The Wake or Razzle Dazzle, a celebratory dinner party with a chef-selected menu and paired drinks, celebratory dessert, and your cabin bubbly upgraded to Moët |
| How much | $250 introductory rate per cabin | $250 per cabin for two Sailors |
| Group size | Your cabin | 1 to 9 cabins, first 50 groups per voyage |
| When to book | Before you sail. Limited per sailing. | Up to 48 hours before the day before sailing. Refundable up to 24 hours before departure. |
Package details come from Virgin’s Splash of Romance page, Splash for Your Bash terms and onboard celebrations FAQ. Non-alcoholic options are available for the brunch and dinner.
My candid take: Splash of Romance is a good add for couples who will use the spa passes and like priority boarding. Some solo Sailors and friends buy it for those perks alone. Splash for Your Bash makes the most sense for a group, because the biggest headache on a group trip is getting everyone a table together, and the dinner party solves that.
What you can and cannot bring
- No balloons and no individual flower arrangements. Virgin does not allow single-use decorations on board, to cut waste (Virgin celebrations FAQ).
- For treats, Virgin points you to the Splash packages, Shake for Champagne, or ordering through Ship Eats.
- Bringing your own wine or Champagne follows Virgin’s normal drink rules. See my rules guide before you pack a bottle.
- Dress codes are relaxed. Scarlet Night is the one night most people plan an outfit for.
Birthdays and milestone trips
For a birthday with friends, the big decisions are the sailing, the cabins and the dinner. Virgin’s celebrations FAQ says linking at least two cabins gets you the Now We’re Voyaging Together perks, including a dining concierge for groups of 8 or more, and that any linked Sailor can make or cancel plans for the group.
In June 2026 I hosted about 40 people on Valiant Lady out of Barcelona for my own 40th birthday. Group dining and a pre-sail-away social were the things that made it feel like one celebration instead of 20 separate cabins. My group cruise guide covers how I set that up.
Honeymoons and anniversaries
- Pick the cabin first. A Sea Terrace with a hammock makes a big difference on a romantic trip. My cabin guide covers which ones are worth it.
- Add Splash of Romance early. It is limited per sailing.
- Book your special dinner the day your dining window opens. Popular times at places like The Wake go first.
- Tell me the date. I note the occasion on your booking and plan around it.
Weddings and vow renewals
Virgin now offers three wedding tiers. The package is separate from the cruise fare, and every guest has to be booked on the sailing (Virgin Voyages weddings).
| Tier | Who attends | Package |
|---|---|---|
| You, Me and the Sea | Couple only. Also used for elopements and vow renewals. | $4,000 |
| Soulmates Set Sail | Couple plus up to 4 guests | $5,000 |
| Wedding on the Waves | Couple plus up to 50 guests, with a cocktail party and dinner | $8,000 |
All tiers include a pre-voyage Wedding Specialist, an onboard coordinator, a private venue, a captain or ship’s officer as officiant, music and decor, cake, basic bouquets and boutonnieres, and a beauty appointment for the couple. Same-sex couples can pick two of the same bouquet or boutonniere options. Virgin asks for at least 90 days to book the first two tiers and 120 days for Wedding on the Waves (Virgin weddings brochure).
How I plan celebrations
What I do for my clients
- I find a sailing that fits the date and the group, and I get group perks in writing when you qualify.
- I add Splash packages early, before they sell out.
- I book group dinners and Shore Things the day windows open.
- I coordinate hotels before and after the cruise for everyone who needs one.
- You get one person to text when plans change, before and during the trip.
